Will I need planning permission?
Most loft conversions these days do not need planning consent. If you reside in a listed building, live in a protected conservation area or your conversion will stretch over a certain size. We can advise you on our initial consultation and guide you through the process if necessary.
Building Regulations, will my conversion need to be approved?
Every loft conversion will require the necessary approval from the local authority. These regulations are there for a good reason, they ensure that all the work has been completed to a good standard and is safe.
Do I need plans to be drawn up?
All conversions need a plan so they conform to the local building regulations. This guarantees that all the work is checked by the authority inspectors and structural engineers. We can help you with this process or you can employ your own architect to complete this work
How can we find out if we have the capacity to have a loft conversion?
We can answer this question by taking a simple measurement from the existing ridge beams to the ceiling level. 2.2m is the minimum height to be a good option. If you have less room available then lowering the ceilings on the first floor can be an option.

How much will our home lives be affected while the conversion work is being carried out?
Most of the building work and movement of the materials can be completed via the scaffolding. Any internal work that needs attending to will be done with care and consideration to you and your family. Any sensitive areas will be protected with dust sheets and any debris and mess will be removed leaving the area clean and tidy.
Would it be possible to view your previous work?
Absolutely no problem, this can always be arranged through an existing client and an appointment made for you to take a look.
Will I be required to contact the local authority about my intended loft conversion work?This is all taken care of by us with regular contact with the building control through the relevant stages of the conversion project.
How long does it take to complete a loft conversion?
As you can probably understand, there are many variable factors to take into consideration.This is just a rough guide as until we know the full details of your requirements it’s hard to guess the timescale accurately. A simple velux loft conversion is usually completed in around 3 to 4 weeks, all depending on the scale of the roof work that needs to be completed, a dormer loft conversion could be anything in the region of four to 6 weeks. A Hip to Gable end conversion can also be around 6 weeks to completion. If you are having a Mansard loft conversion project and it requires a whole new roof, then this can increase the timescale up to around 7 to 8 weeks. Will a loft conversion add value and increase the equity in my property?
Yes and most estate agents will advise and agree that an increase of around 20% is a realistic figure to go by.
